Nijolė Valadkevičiūtė
1944–2020
Nijolė Valadkevičiūtė (1944–2020) was a Lithuanian printmaker, animated film director and animation artist. She was born and died in Vilnius. She graduated in printmaking from the Lithuanian Art Institute in 1970 and in 1983 completed the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors in Moscow, becoming the first Lithuanian woman to graduate in animation directing. From 1983 to 2002 she worked at the Lithuanian Film Studio. Her animated films include 'Medis' (The Tree, 1983), 'Sezamai, atsiverk' (Open Sesame, 2001) and 'Edeno sodai' (Gardens of Eden, 2008). Her prints are mostly etchings (the cycles 'Lithuanian Folk Song Motifs' and 'Metamorphoses of the Sky'), later joined by digital prints. She also illustrated books. Her works are held by the Lithuanian National Museum of Art and MO Museum.
