In 1998–2000 he took part in the activities of the group “24”. He received the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts in 1992 and the Knight's Cross of the Order “For Merits to Lithuania” in 2006. b. 1986, Brazil
Rafael Baron (b. 1986) is a Brazilian artist. He began his artistic search in 1999, exploring photography and drawing. He paints figurative pictures in mixed media – acrylic and oil on canvas, with gold leaf and gold-thread embroidery. The faces in all his paintings are almost identical: a hard-to-read expression, large full lips and dark, almost closed eyes. Personality is conveyed not by facial features but by bright, varied clothing, hairstyles, accessories and skin tones. His compositions have a theatrical quality and symbolic details. For Baron, art is a way of building a harmonious community and encouraging an open dialogue about tolerance and social diversity.

b. 1985, Mali
Amadou Opa Bathily (b. 1985) is an artist from Mali. He graduated from the National Institute of Arts and the Balla Fasséké Kouyaté Conservatory of Multimedia Arts and Crafts in Bamako. While still very young he began working at the Atelier Miria art restoration workshop, where he perfected techniques for working various materials, especially metal. In his paintings he applies methods of working hard materials and uses leather, plastic and recycled materials, which give his compositions lightness and plasticity. His paintings are inspired by the traditional leather costumes of the hunters known as “Donzo Ton”. By juxtaposing different materials, he creates a poetry of the everyday and conveys the fragility of daily life.

b. 1979, USA
Laura Berger (b. 1979) is an American artist who lives and works in Chicago. Her work centres on interconnectedness and self-discovery, with figurative archetypes, intuitive colour palettes and dreamlike, minimal settings. She began painting as a therapeutic practice, which remains the basis of her work: she uses colour as a tool for centring and healing, and narrative and composition as a way of working through experiences and memories. She leaves the narrative and setting in her paintings open, aiming for an almost dreamlike feeling. What matters most to her is the emotional energy of a painting and stories in which viewers can find their own connections.

b. 1992, USA
Alic Brock (b. 1992) is a self-taught artist from Atlanta, Georgia (USA). He works with a highly precise airbrush technique: he digitally modifies images, often found online, and transfers them to canvas using warped and distorted stencils that give his compositions a sense of tension and transformation. His work is dominated by pop-culture figures – basketball players and musicians – and he also draws inspiration from art history and sport, especially running and wrestling. A bright, saturated palette and repeated and inverted images address digital communication, visual overload and the fading boundary between physical and digital reality.

b. 1999, Ghana
Pabi Daniel was born in 1999 in Accra, the capital of Ghana. He is a versatile painter and an advocate of hyperrealism. His precision in depicting faces stems from many years of practising sculpture: with thick brushstrokes he builds a three-dimensional image and conveys the emotions of his sitters. His painting is inspired by Adinkra, the ideographic writing symbols of the Akan language, which he weaves into the gestures of the bodies he paints to address social problems, Black identity and social and political engagement. One half of a face is often realistic, while the other dissolves into abstract impasto swirls. In 2025 TUMO galerija held his solo exhibition "Sartorial Architectures".

1928–2015
Pranas Gailius (1928–2015) was a Lithuanian émigré printmaker and painter whose work was first shown in his homeland only in 2004. Already in works made after 1952, the influences of well-known artists survive only as outlines. He used a framing of the figure or a stronger linear accent in the cycles "Pan's Elegies" (1952–1958), "The Luxembourg Garden" (1952–1958) and "Georgics" (1957–1959). The wave of new expressionism that became popular in France in the mid-1950s also affected him: he moved away from figuration, and objecthood gave way to abstraction. His works are held by the Lithuanian National Museum of Art, the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art and the Samogitian Art Museum.

1893–1969
Adomas Galdikas (1893–1969) was a Lithuanian painter regarded as the founder of the modern Lithuanian landscape, combining folk art with modern stylistic trends. He lived and worked in Lithuania until the Second World War and later left for the United States. His early painting is realist: until about the 1950s he sought to capture reality as a phenomenon of being, depicting an object or person not as he subjectively saw it but in response to its archetypal form. In his late period he also painted abstractions, such as the tempera works "Abstraction" of 1960–1968. His works are held by the Lithuanian National Museum of Art, the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art, "Alka" and the Galdikas Museum.

Martynas Gediminas's painting is monumental, restrained and at the same time intense. His works show trust in the language of painting and an ability to build a strong visual field from a few pictorial means. Brushstroke, texture, the rhythm of colour patches and translucent layers of paint become the main language of the work. The abstract, conditional compositions are enriched by the glow of silver, gold, foil and other metallic surfaces, while cold aluminium frames contrast with the warm colouring. In 2026 his works "Tiesa" ("Truth") from the Žiedai series (acrylic, mixed media) were presented at the TUMO galerija exhibition "O gal žiedų?".

USA
American artist Christian Grossman is represented in the gallery by his 1975 acrylic painting Pulsacija No. 5 (Pulsation No. 5, 123 × 123 cm), signed on the edge of the canvas. It is a work of op art and geometric abstraction: many narrow parallel bands, shifting from dark brown to light sand, form a broken central figure reminiscent of the numeral 5 and a meander, while in two opposite corners the bands bend into arcs. The even gradation of tones creates an impression of relief, depth and light coming from within, and the strict geometric structure seems to pulse optically as one looks. The painting is square and executed in flat areas of colour without visible brushstrokes.

Daniel Gyekyi Gyan was born in 1992 in Accra, Ghana. Interested in art from an early age, he graduated from the Ghanatta College of Art and Design in Accra. After his studies he experimented with various painting techniques until he found his own direction by combining the expressive means of Fauvism with impasto. Using acrylic paint and modelling paste, he builds bold, textured brushstrokes whose vivid colour conveys movement and energy. His focus is the person of the bustling city, fashion and style; he most often paints portraits of women, capturing natural movement and sincere emotion. Its tall, narrow vertical format holds a still life: against a dark background stands a vase with an abundant bouquet of peonies. The yellowish, orange and pink blossoms are painted with thick, short strokes that follow the shape of the petals, set among dark and light green leaves. The warm tones of the flowers contrast strongly with the deep, dark surroundings, and highlights fall on the vase and the surface it stands on. The painting is signed in the lower left corner.

Thokozani Madonsela (b. 1988) is a South African artist born in Daggakraal, Mpumalanga. He completed printmaking studies at Artist Proof Studio. He works in painting, printmaking, charcoal drawing, mosaic and murals. His work is recognisable for its nude, faceless, often laughing figures whose gender, age or social status cannot be determined. This is his way of depicting a neutral human identity, and the figures' wide-open mouths act as a critique of their surroundings. He has taken part in the SA Taxi Foundation Art Awards and Absa L'Atelier exhibitions. In 2022 his works were shown in the exhibition “Contemporary African Art: Dreams and Realities of Identity” at the Vytautas Kasiulis Art Museum.

b. 1983, Nigeria
John Madu (b. 1983, Lagos) is a Nigerian artist who lives and works in Lagos. He holds a bachelor's degree in Policy and Strategic Studies and is self-taught as an artist. He paints in acrylic and oil, also using spray paint, burlap and collage, and makes sculptures and design objects. His figurative, symbol-laden paintings examine identity, social behaviour and the effect of cultural globalisation on the individual; books, apples and other recognisable objects recur in them. In 2025 the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam presented the work of an African artist for the first time in its history with the exhibition "Van Gogh x John Madu: Paint Your Path", for which he created ten new paintings.

As a child in Ghana he came to know traditional Akan artefacts, sculptures and carvings; as a young man he moved to London. He is largely self-taught. He calls his approach "AfroGenesis": it combines the language of Cubism with Ghanaian artistic traditions, and he names Picasso and Fernand Léger among his influences. His paintings address inequality, religion, politics and spirituality. In 2021 JD Malat Gallery in London held his exhibition "Dreaming of Identity"; a retrospective was later shown in Baku. Her abstract paintings, works on paper and books are rooted in language, speech and sound: fragments of words, phrases or numbers are repeated, buried under paint and turned into drawing. She took part in the 1993 and 2014 Whitney Biennials and has had solo exhibitions at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum and the Fralin Museum of Art. In 2019 she received a Guggenheim Fellowship. Henrikas Natalevičius (b. 1953, Vilnius) is a Lithuanian painter. He graduated from the Lithuanian Art Institute in 1976 and worked at the Exhibition Palace of Art in Vilnius and in the painting department of the Lithuanian Art Museum. In the 1970s–80s, with B. Gražys, M. Skudutis, R. Sližys and R. Vilkauskas, he formed one of the first unofficial artists’ groups, known as the “Five”; he was also a member of Grupė 24, a group active in 1989–2000. His work is marked by fantasy-inspired visions, irony, layered meaning and an “aesthetics of ugliness”; he gives objects and natural forms the shapes of human body parts. He set aside literary narrative and cultivated expressive brushwork, often in a brown-green palette. His works are held by the Lithuanian National Museum of Art, the M. K. Born in Vilnius, he studied at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, lived in the USA from 1992 and for many years was a curator at Anthology Film Archives in New York. He belonged to the generation of R. Nemeikšis, G. P. Janonis and R. Bartkevičius, yet was also close to the aesthetics of older painters such as A. Skačkauskas, J. Gasiūnas and V. Ilčiukas, to the mythopoetics of Lithuanian painting of the late 1980s, to mysticism and a revived Symbolism. He exhibited in Lithuania, Hungary, Russia, Portugal, the Netherlands, Japan and the USA. Oscar Quarshie Nelson (b. 2000) is a Ghanaian painter. He studied visual arts at Holy Trinity Cathedral Senior High School and later developed his skills as a studio assistant to graduates of the Ghanatta College of Art and Design. His work is part of the contemporary Ghanaian tradition of figurative portraiture. He paints his brothers, friends and colleagues in moments of calm or action, set against bright monochrome backgrounds and in harmony with nature. He achieves the glow and texture of the skin by laying interwoven threads onto oil paint applied thickly with a palette knife; the dark brown skin tones contrast with flat Western clothing.

Bianca Nemelc (b. 1991) is a figurative painter, born and raised in New York City and based in the Bronx. Self-taught, she works in acrylic, building her paintings slowly, layer by layer. Her work centres on the bond between the female figure and nature: she paints her figures in many shades of brown as a tribute to her heritage, while her landscapes are loosely inspired by the tropical and Caribbean places her family comes from. In 2022 she had the solo exhibition 'Austral Summer' at Hashimoto Contemporary in New York. 'Snowmelt and Blood' (2022), offered by the gallery, is composed of soft, undulating forms in white, red, brown and green.

Having grown up in a Japanese-Filipino family, he explores social discrimination and identity, drawing on personal experience and approaching these themes with irony and humour. He paints mainly with an airbrush, usually in black and white: smoothly blended shades and crisp edges recall 1990s American animation and Japanese subculture. In his portraits he depicts cultural icons of the past dressed in contemporary clothes. In 2022 GR Gallery in New York held his first solo exhibition in the USA, 'HUSHED'.

b. 1958, France
Thierry Noir (b. 1958) is a French artist and mural painter based in Berlin. In the 1980s he was among the first to paint the Berlin Wall. It was illegal and dangerous: the wall stood on East German territory, and border guards could detain anyone who approached it. Because of this risk he developed a method he called “Fast Form Manifest”: figures painted in a single continuous line using only a few colours. His works are characterised by bright colours, thick black outlines, faces in profile and simplified, almost naive forms. Over five years he painted about 5–6 km of the wall. His works are held in museum collections in Berlin, New York and London.

b. 2001, Kenya
Alpha Odh (b. 2001) is a Kenyan painter based in Nairobi. His early painting was abstract or realist; his current work was prompted by photography. Rather than objects themselves, he paints intertwined ideas of objects – sketches, lines and geometric forms that the viewer’s imagination and experience extend. The people he depicts have no facial features: he sees identity as merely a construct. In the small-format series “Figures of Speech” he captures everyday moments in Nairobi: skyscrapers, people in suits, trees and flowers. In the series “OPAQUE”, begun in 2023, he paints in a very thin layer of acrylic on translucent vinyl fabric, inspired by church stained glass.

b. 1986, Nigeria
Joseph David Otobo was born in 1986 in Nigeria and studied at Yaba College of Technology. He is a conceptual visual artist who likes to experiment: in his two-dimensional works he uses a variety of materials and does not limit himself to painting alone. His subjects come from observing the social and economic situation of his immediate surroundings, details of nature and their colours. The painting offered by the gallery, "Victoria 1" (2021, 90 × 90 cm), is a portrait of a young woman: a purple sweater, a pale circle behind her head, and branches with leaves and clusters of dark berries on either side against a brown-orange background. The work is reproduced in the catalogue of the exhibition „Šiuolaikinė Afrikos dailė: tapatybės svajos ir realijos“ (Contemporary African Art: Dreams and Realities of Identity, 2022).

His work came to prominence in the 1950s–60s in the context of modern Australian art: local critics saw in it European artistic traditions, the emotional force of his abstracted compositions, a bold individual style and an unconventional technique. Among the Lithuanian artists working there – Vaclovas Ratas, Algirdas Šimkūnas, Jurgis Mikševičius – his work stood out for the consistency of its search. Šarūnas Šimulynas (1939–1999) was a versatile artist: he made sculpture, painting, prints, frescoes and mosaics, and wrote prose and poetry. His work deals with themes that remain relevant today – nature, the human being and their mutual influence – and with close observation of change in nature. His firm, even stern character, which allowed no concessions to what he did not believe in, showed in his works and in his choice of materials and themes, but it also created a kind of vacuum around him: for a long time his legacy remained almost forgotten, surrounded by silence. He attended La Presbyterian High School and is largely self-taught as a painter; the advice of the artists Ablade Glover and Amoako Boafo gave him an important push. His painting combines elements of expressionism and abstraction, and he draws lines into the paint layer with combs or palm brooms. He finds inspiration in family and community life and often depicts women and children. In 2019 his works were shown at Omanye House gallery in Accra. Both acrylic portraits of women offered by the gallery were shown in 2022 in the exhibition 'Contemporary African Art: Dreams and Realities of Identity' at the Vytautas Kasiulis Art Museum in Vilnius.

b. 1931
Aloyzas Stasiulevičius (born 1931 in Ariogala) is a painter whose work centres on Vilnius. As D. Zovienė writes, the city in his paintings is not merely an urban landscape but a symbol of Lithuanian history and culture. He approaches landscape like a stage set or a work of monumental art: he rejects plot and narrative, choosing poetic metaphor and the principles of musical thinking. He interprets the same motif differently each time and often groups paintings into cycles. His painting is marked by logical composition, a sensitive feeling for colour, musical linear rhythm and an innovative treatment of collage and texture. His works are held by the Lithuanian National Museum of Art, the MO Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery.

b. 1993, UK
Oriele Steiner (b. 1993) is a British painter, born and raised in North London. Her parents were deaf, so her first language was visual. After a foundation course at Central Saint Martins, she received her bachelor's degree from the University of Brighton in 2015 and took the Turps Banana Correspondence Course in 2021–2022. In 2016 she was selected for Bloomberg New Contemporaries, later receiving a residency at The Royal Standard in Liverpool. Her painting plays with colour and light, creating fantastical, semi-narrative scenes that combine comedy and darkness. Seizures diagnosed at the age of sixteen led her to explore how to convey the sensations of those moments, especially the phenomenon of 'jamais vu'.

1928–2011
Aspazija Vaivadaitė Surgailienė (1928–2011) was a Lithuanian printmaker born in Tauragė. She graduated from the Lithuanian Art Institute in 1958. She illustrated more than 70 books, mostly Lithuanian folk tales; her 1961 'Pasakų skrynelė' (Fairy-Tale Chest), a set of small books in a box, was published in four versions with a combined print run of nearly 200,000 copies. In the late 1960s her style took shape, based on the stylisation of folk art: decorative qualities, large generalised forms and a strong outline. She made print cycles on themes from folk tales and songs, as well as stained glass, and around 1992–1993 she took up quilts. Her works are held by the Lithuanian National Museum of Art and the Šiauliai Aušra Museum.

1923–2012, Spain
Antoni Tàpies (1923–2012) was a Spanish artist who made paintings, prints, sculptures and works on paper. His work was influenced by the early modernists Paul Klee and Joan Miró and by Art Informel artists such as Jean Dubuffet. Tàpies developed a visual language of thick gestural marks, signs and symbols, and his use of materials ranging from rubbish and earth to dust and stone gave his works a sense of solidity and physicality. In the late 1950s the owners of the Sala Gaspar gallery in Barcelona invited him to publish his first lithographs. He took part in the Venice Biennale four times. His works are in the collections of the Centre Pompidou, Moderna Museet, Kunstmuseum Basel, Fondation Beyeler, MoMA and Tate.
