Bronius Gražys
b. 1952
Bronius Gražys was born in 1952 in Kaunas. He graduated from the Lithuanian Art Institute in 1976 and has taught there since 1983 (the Vilnius Academy of Arts since 1990); he is a professor. With H. Natalevičius, M. Skudutis, R. Sližys and R. Vilkauskas he formed the unofficial group Penketas (The Five), which contributed to changes in Lithuanian painting, and he was later a member of the group 24. His early works combine dark backgrounds with multicoloured figures; the later ones have bright, shimmering surfaces. His painting is marked by surreal dream imagery, paradoxical juxtapositions and irony. His works are held by the Lithuanian National Museum of Art, the M. K.
