Suzanne McClelland
b. 1959, USA
Suzanne McClelland (b. 1959, Jacksonville, Florida) is an American artist based in New York. She earned a BFA from the University of Michigan and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Her abstract paintings, works on paper and books are rooted in language, speech and sound: fragments of words, phrases or numbers are repeated, buried under paint and turned into drawing. She took part in the 1993 and 2014 Whitney Biennials and has had solo exhibitions at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum and the Fralin Museum of Art. In 2019 she received a Guggenheim Fellowship. Her work is held by MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum. The gallery offers her 1993 painting "They" (acrylic, pen and resin spots on canvas).
