Adolfas Valeška
1905–1994
Adolfas Valeška (1905–1994) was a painter, stained-glass artist, decorator, stage designer, art critic, researcher of art and culture, and a pioneer of modern church art. He was born in Kybartai in 1905. After graduating from the Kaunas Art School in 1928, he joined the Lithuanian art scene as an artist, teacher and organiser. His early works were close to Impressionism, while later ones show expressionist moods. He painted landscapes, still lifes and portraits marked by rich colour, elegant brushwork and a lyrical mood. The gallery offers works on sacred themes: tempera paintings on cardboard from the 1970s and the 1982 canvas 'Flight into Egypt'.
