Ghana / UK
Christian Hiadzi is a Ghanaian-British painter and architect. Born in Ghana, he later moved to London, where he lives and works. He is self-taught as a painter and began making art at the age of eight. He trained as an architect, is RIBA-qualified and worked for about a decade in architecture and design. His portraits bring together figuration and abstraction, with bold colours inspired by Ghana and often a monochrome background. Among his influences he names the painters Turner, Francis Bacon and Anselm Kiefer and the fashion designer Alexander McQueen. In 2021 he was one of the winners of the Reclaim Award in Cologne.
