Šarūnas Šimulynas
1939–1999
Šarūnas Šimulynas (1939–1999) was a versatile artist: he made sculpture, painting, prints, frescoes and mosaics, and wrote prose and poetry. His work deals with themes that remain relevant today – nature, the human being and their mutual influence – and with close observation of change in nature. His firm, even stern character, which allowed no concessions to what he did not believe in, showed in his works and in his choice of materials and themes, but it also created a kind of vacuum around him: for a long time his legacy remained almost forgotten, surrounded by silence. The gallery offers the linocut 'Mother at Work' (1958). His works are held by the Lithuanian National Museum of Art.
